About Maneyvchi
Founded in 1892 as an expansion of the railway station, Manevychi is part of the historic Polissia region of Western Ukraine and is located in Volyn Oblast. The Manevychi district formed in 1940, and has had its current borders since 1967. The district is composed of two urban villages (Manevychi and Kolka) and 69 rural villages. More than 55,600 people live in the Manevychi district. In addition to being a center of Polissian culture, the region is known for its beautiful natural setting, including many lakes.
What To See & Do
Outdoor & Adventure Activities
One of the highlights of a trip to Maneyvchi is the opportunity to experience the beauty of the district’s natural parks and reserves. Our 24 lakes and many acres of forests make it possible for the area to host a variety of eco-tourism activities. Highlights of the region include Okonsky natural springs and the Cheremskiy nature preserve consisting of 3,000 hectares of protected land. o Fishing & Hunting
Manevychi is a fisherman’s dream, with lakes and rivers filled with carp, trout, perch, pike, bream, and tench. Hunters will find wild boar, deer, hare, fox, ducks, and partridges.
o Swimming, Kayaking, and Boating
All of the lakes and rivers of Manevychi are ideal for swimming, or for a leisurely boat or kayak trip.
One day kayak trips can be organized for up to 20 people (34 kms) from May to October.
One day boat trips for up to 20 people (four people on up to five boats) are available from May to October.
o Hiking
The Manevychi region offers many opportunities for hiking in the fresh air. Guided ecological hikes in the Cheremskiy nature preserve are available for those interested in the natural sciences. Routes include one hour (700 meters, along the “guerilla trail”), four hours (4500 meters, includes the marshes), and eight hours (6900m, includes the lake).
o Bird Watching
Many species of birds inhabit the nature parks of Manyevchi, and the preservation of the environment has allowed them to thrive. Birds include swans, common cranes, great grey owls, Eurasian eagle-owls, aquatic warblers, stock doves, wood grouses, great snipes, corn crakes, and gadwall ducks.
o Horseback Riding
Manevychi makes a beautiful setting for a horseback ride and tours are available in Karastyn forest.
o Mushroom & Berry Gathering
The forest of Manevychi are known for their delicious mushrooms, as well as for their abundance of naturally-growing raspberries, cranberries, blackberries, and whortleberries. Tours on the harvesting and processing of birch sap (including tastings) are also available.

Manevychi has many cultural, historical, and architectural points of interests throughout the district. Best of all, much of the Polissian culture has been preserved in Manevychi. o Authentic Cultural Experiences & Homestays
Manevychi is located in the culturally rich Polissia region of Ukraine, and is considered to have some of the best-preserved traditions in the country. One unique way to experience the hospitality of the region is to stay with a local family where you’ll enjoy regional food specialties (such as locally grown mushrooms and domestic sausages) and take part in the local customs.
o Musems & Monuments
Opened in 1967, the Manevychi Regional Museum of Local Lore offers a fascinating glimpse into local folk art as well as the natural, social, and political history of the region. Exhibitions at the museum change periodically.
Other sites include the railway station (built in 1904), the Jewish memorial, the Afghan soldiers memorial, and the monument to the heroes of the Soviet Union.
o Churches
Manevychi is home to 19 beautiful Orthodox churches, four of which are listed in the State Register of National Cultural Heritage, and one Roman Catholic Church (built in 1920). Specific sites include the Chertoryisk orthodox monastery and the Starosil’sk nunnery. The designs of these churches are unique to the region, and cannot be fully attributed to any one architectural style.
A special church tour, “Spiritual Treasures of Manevychi,” is available, as is a tour of “Cemeteries of Polish Legionnaires.”
o Markets
We invite you to join us for our weekly market each Sunday, located by the train station. Here you can purchase local food products and browse a variety of items for sale.
o Festivals & Special Events
The region hosts several festivals throughout the year.
• District Festival "Rejoice Land" (“Oé ðàäóéñÿ çåìëå” - Ukrainian) held in January around Christmastime, featuring Christmas carols and a nativity. This begins the New Year.
• The Festival of the Patriotic Song "Bells of Chernobyl" (in April before the anniversary of the Chernobyl accident), with the participation of Kamin-Kashirsky, Lyubeshivsky rayon. This began in 2003.
• The international Folklore festival "Polissia Patterns" (Independence Day), launched in 2008. This quickly became international with the participation of folk groups from Poland, Belarus, and Lithuania.
• "Woodlands Singing Family,” the festival of family and family groups (held in autumn).

How to Get Here
Manevychi is conveniently located in Western Ukraine and is easily accessible by car, bus, and train.
• By Car
Manevychi is located directly off of Kyiv-Warsaw Road, and is 130km from the Yagodin border crossing with Poland and 83km from the Dolsk border crossing with Belarus. Lviv is 225km from Manevychi (approximately 3 hours by car) and 380km from Kyiv.
• By Bus

• By Train
